Contracts, Grants and Trade Associations

Think-A-Move, Ltd. (TAM) has received funding from the following organizations to develop and commercialize its hands-free speech control and communications technology using sound captured in the ear canal for the unmanned ground vehicle and wheelchair markets:

CCAT
Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT):

The Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT) Southern California is a Congressionally supported initiative to fast-track the transition to market of advanced technologies which address critical national defense and homeland security needs.

CCAT's mission is to deliver enabling technologies from industry, academic, and government laboratories to the military and other DoD customers through the execution of CCAT's unique commercialization processes.

Think-A-Move received a $75,000 contract from the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology. Under the contract, TAM developed speech command input technology that was integrated with the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command�s (SPAWAR) autonomous and semi-autonomous robot control technology.

In early 2009, TAM received another contract from the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology for $75,000 for additional work with SPAWAR. The contract will fund the expansion of TAM's demonstration platform with SPAWAR's autonomous and semi-autonomous robot control technology and will enhance the speech command input that it had developed earlier. SPAWAR
Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR):

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command intends on inventing, acquiring, developing, delivering and supporting integrated & interoperable C4ISR, business IT and space capabilities in the interest of national defense. SPAWAR has a reputation in the ground robotics community as a thought and technology leader.

In December 2008, TAM completed the integration of SPEAR onto Multi-Robot Operator Control Unit (MOCU), a project funded by CCAT. The integration with MOCU, an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) control technology developed by SPAWAR, resulted in a demonstration platform utilizing SPEAR's capabilities and functionalities.

In early 2009, TAM is scheduled to begin another integration with SPAWAR for additional integration of SPEAR onto SPAWAR's MOCU. The integration with MOCU, which will again be funded by CCAT, will further demonstrate SPEAR's capabilities and functionalities on the resulting demonstration platform.

State of Ohio Seal
Ohio Research Commercialization Grant Program (ORCGP):

The Ohio Research Commercialization Grant Program works to improve the commercial viability of research and development projects in Ohio. Their assistance increases the ability of small technology companies to assess and realize the commercial potential of research projects and to promote the competitiveness of these companies through the augmentation of federal research and development funding.

Think-A-Move, Ltd. received a $350,000 contract from the Ohio Research Commercialization Grant Program. The contract will provide Think-A-Move with funding to further its commercialization efforts for this exciting technology.

United States Army Commercial Pilot Program (CPP):

The United States Army Commercial Pilot Program is intended to accelerate the transition of SBIR-funded technologies to Phase III, especially into systems being developed, acquired and maintained for the warfighter.

Think-A-Move, Ltd. received a $600,000 contract from the United States Army Commercialization Pilot Program. Under the contract, which was received on March 18, 2008, Think-A-Move will develop a field-deployable system of its hands-free and heads-up system for controlling a military robot with speech commands. TARDEC
Tank, Automotive, Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC):

The Tank, Automotive, Research, Development and Engineering Center develops and integrates the right technology solutions to improve the effectiveness of the current force and realize the superior capability of the future force in order to facilitate Army transformation. Its technical staff leads research in ground vehicle survivability, mobility, intelligent systems, and maneuver support and sustainment.

Think-A-Move, Ltd., received a Phase III Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Contract from TARDEC totaling $340,000. To read more download the press release (PDF).

In November 2008, TAM won a $280,000 contract from the Joint Center for Robotics at TARDEC for an integration project with Foster-Miller's MAARS platform as an addition to its current Phase III contract.

NIH
National Institute of Health (NIH):

In July of 2005, TAM received a Phase II SBIR Grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH). The funds received totaled $750,000 over two years.

Think-A-Move�s technology was featured in the July 2008 issue of the AUVSI monthly magazine. Publication highlights included the Ohio Research Commercialization Grant for $350,000 and hands-free control of a UGV using speech recognition in noisy environments.

TAM was featured in the October 2008 issue of Unmanned Systems Magazine in a two-page article on its technology titled "Can You Hear Me Now?" The article details TAM's speech control technology for unmanned systems. To read the complete story click here.
